Samui Architect is a small studio of architects, builders, and craftspeople who have spent two and a half decades doing one thing well — building villas and resorts that belong to Koh Samui.
"After 25 years on this island, you stop measuring villas by the renderings. You measure them by the second monsoon."
I started Samui Architect in 2001 with two draftsmen and a hand-drawn site plan of a small house in Bophut. We've grown — but only quietly. Our studio is still under twenty people. We still draw the first concept by hand. And we still walk every plot before we send a number.
The Samui we work on now is not the Samui of 2001. The roads are paved, the airport is busy, the island is full of villas built by architects who flew in once and never came back. We have a different model — we live here, we build with the same site team for years, and we stay in touch long after handover.
If you're thinking about building a home on this island, we'd love to walk it with you.
A short timeline of the moments that shaped how we work today.
Mr. Jessada opens the studio with two draftsmen above a small café. First commission: a 3-bedroom hillside house in Bophut.
Twelve-suite boutique resort completed. The brief that taught us how to design at scale without losing the texture of a private home.
We bring construction in-house — engineers, foremen, site captains. The same team has built every villa we've designed since.
A quiet milestone — and the year we started numbering each project to track aftercare across a decade.
A long-running collaboration becomes formal. Devstudio takes on branding, photography, listings and rentals for every villa we launch.
Design + Build + Market under a single accountable timeline — the model we'd been refining for two decades, finally named.
We begin with the land — reading slope, breeze, sun and salt — so every villa lives with its surroundings, never imposed on top of them. The plan follows the plot, not the other way around.
Local stone, warm timber, lime wash, brushed teak — a material language we've refined over two decades. Materials that age gracefully in the salt air, not just in the rendering.
The architect who first met the land stays with the project through to handover. No baton-passes between firms. Decisions on site happen in minutes, not weeks of email.
A 12-month structural warranty, two scheduled inspections, and an in-house aftercare team that's still a phone call away a decade later. Most of our owners are still in touch.
An in-house team of Thai, Indonesian, and Burmese designers — plus site supervisors who live and work on Samui every day.

Our studio sits in a converted teak house just north of Maenam, a five-minute drive from the beach. The library, the model shop, and the coffee are all here — and so is most of the team, most days.
If you're on the island, drop by. Mornings are best. We'll show you the material samples, the sketches on the wall, and probably make you a flat white.

Every project starts with a conversation. No pitch deck, no pressure — just a slow look at the plot, what you'd like the villa to do, and whether we're the right studio for the job.
